What is a portable power station?

A portable power station is a large battery with multiple outputs: 230V AC outlets, USB-A and USB-C ports, 12V DC outputs and sometimes car outlets. Think of it as a silent generator that stores electricity instead of burning petrol.

💡
Not the same as a power bank

A power bank only charges phones and tablets. A power station can run laptops, TVs, appliances and even fridges for hours.

LiFePO4 vs NMC: which battery technology?

🔋
LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate)

Longer lifespan (3,000–3,500 cycles), safer, more stable at high temperatures. Ideal for intensive home or farm use. Used by BLUETTI and EcoFlow high-end models.

NMC (lithium oxide)

Higher energy density (more Wh in less space/weight), faster charging. Shorter lifespan (500–1,000 cycles). Used in more compact, affordable models.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Most allow simultaneous charge and discharge (pass-through). You can keep it plugged into the grid and power devices at the same time — like a domestic UPS.
LiFePO4 (BLUETTI, EcoFlow DELTA 2) last 3,000–3,500 cycles to 80% capacity. Charging once a week, that's 60+ years theoretically. NMC lasts 500–1,000 cycles (10–20 years with weekly use).
Yes. LiFePO4 batteries have management circuits that prevent overcharging. Many models have a "storage mode" that maintains the battery at 80% to extend lifespan. Keep in a ventilated area away from direct heat sources.
